PANIC ROOM PLANS
In the middle ages they called them "magna-turns. They later became known as "Donjon's". In 16th century English literature they adopted the title "Castle Keeps". Now-a-days they are known as Security rooms, Safety rooms or panic rooms. No matter what they are called they are designed to provide safe-keeping to the king of his castle.
During the medieval days they were designed as a center tower. They usually consisted of several floors and had incredibly thick walls. They may have had a basement, guardroom, great hall and baronial chamber.
In Pembroke Castle this area was four stories tall, over 53 feet in diameter and had walls that were 16 feet thick. While Security rooms of modern days may not be this grandiose, they are designed to supply the same unsurpassed level of security.
