HISTORY OF PANIC ROOMS The original security rooms date back to ancient Egypt. Security rooms were built into the Pyramids to protect the entombed Kings treasures. The first creation of Security rooms for the purpose of protecting people was created during the middle ages. The "Castle Keep" was the first use of a room located in the deepest part of the castle. The purpose of a "Castle Keep" was to protect the king from a siege. During the 17th century the Catholic priests of England built what was known as "Priest holds". These Security rooms were created for the protection of the Priests during the period of persecution. In the United States Security rooms were developed during the Civil War to protect slaves that were traveling with the "Underground Railroad. Decades later these same Security rooms were used to stash Prohibition-banned alcohol. Another popular purpose of Security rooms was the advent of the "Bomb Shelter". These Security rooms became popular in the 1950's, after the end of World War II. These rooms were intended to protect you in the case of nuclear war or fallout. About 25 years ago Security rooms were first built for the purpose of residential safety. These rooms closely assimilated the idea of "Castle Keeps". They have become the core of home security, fortifying rooms or sections of newly constructed homes. These rooms are more than mere "money pits" created to placate the neurotic whims of the wealthy and eccentric. As times become more uncertain and threats of terrorism become regular news items, these rooms become ever more popular. Security rooms have become commonplace and provide "Piece of Mind" in a time when nothing is certain. These rooms have become modern day "castle keeps."
